HydroVitality Oxyhydrogen Inhalation Therapy

Oxyhydrogen therapy has been used as a clinical therapeutic since 2019 where it was applied in East Asia as a recovery aide for patients hospitalised with COVID-19. More recently advancements in gas generation technology have expanded its accessibility and therapeutic applications, with ongoing studies investigating its efficacy for conditions including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD), cancer, sports recovery and various skin conditions.

Oxyhydrogen therapy involves inhaling a gas mixture of hydrogen (H₂) and oxygen (O₂) in a 2:1 ratio. This treatment leverages the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of molecular hydrogen, while providing the body with oxygen to support metabolic functions.

  • Preparation:
A specialized oxyhydrogen generator, such as HydroVitality, produces the gas mixture through water electrolysis, separating water (H₂O) into hydrogen and oxygen components. The gas is then delivered via a nasal cannula or mask, connected to the generator.
  • Session Details:
Sessions are typically performed in a seated or reclined position, ensuring comfort and relaxation throughout the therapy.
  • Products Used:
High-purity water, such as sterile or distilled water, is used in the generator.
  • Process:
The gas is produced in real-time during each session, ensuring a continuous and consistent supply without the need for gas storage.

The HydroVitality machine is designed to deliver oxyhydrogen inhalation therapy, where users inhale a gas mixture of molecular hydrogen (H₂), and oxygen (O₂) generated through water electrolysis. This therapy is demonstrated to have antioxidant properties, potentially reducing oxidative stress, inflammation, and supporting overall wellness. Additionally, the machine also produces oxyhydrogen-rich water, which can be consumed for hydration and further health benefits, such as improving metabolic and immune functions.

To-date, there are no comparative studies of oxyhydrogen with other wellness therapies.

The duration of oxyhydrogen therapy treatments, consultations, and aftercare can vary depending on the provider and the individual’s needs:

  • Initial Consultations:
A consultation to assess health history, goals, and suitability for the therapy usually takes 30–60 minutes, during which treatment protocols are tailored to the individual.
  • Treatment Sessions:
The individual breathes the gas mixture through a nasal cannula. Typical inhalation sessions last between 30 and 60 minutes, with some programs recommending 2–3 sessions per week or more frequently for specific therapeutic goals. For wellness or recovery purposes, the therapy may be part of a broader program that includes lifestyle recommendations or adjunct therapies including nutritional guidance and/or relaxation techniques.
  • Aftercare:
No significant aftercare is generally required since oxyhydrogen therapy is non-invasive. However, providers may recommend follow-up consultations every few weeks to monitor progress and adjust protocols.

An educational course has been developed focusing on advancing knowledge and practical skills in cutting-edge therapeutic and scientific techniques. The modules are tailored to medical practitioners, researchers, and students, emphasising evidence-based approaches and real-world applications. Key topics include the therapeutic potential of oxyhydrogen inhalation, its mechanisms of action, and its benefits for metabolic, cardiovascular, and immune health. The course incorporates interactive elements such as videos, practical applications, case studies, and assessments to ensure participants gain a comprehensive understanding and the ability to apply these techniques in clinical or research settings.

We have received specialised training on the operation of the HydroVitality machine, focusing on both hydrogen inhalation therapy and hydrogen-rich water production. This training covered safety protocols, machine functionality, and the therapeutic benefits of hydrogen, ensuring correct usage for optimal health outcomes.

Water Fuel Engineering – HydroVitality

The HydroVitality device has undergone rigorous safety and production testing. The device is certified according to CE standards.

Find out how Hydrovitality can help improve your health by reducing inflammation, boosting energy, and fighting free radicals.

HydroVitality can support a healthy lifestyle by acting as a selective antioxidant and immune modulator, helping the body to maintain homeostatic function.

Due to its effective antioxidant and immune modulatory properties, it is likely that HydroVitality can address some of the debilitating symptoms of Long-COVID such as fatigue and respiratory distress.

As clinical data for the treatment of Alzheimer’s, specifically, is in its early stages there are no long-term studies on the effectiveness of oxyhydrogen therapies for this condition. There are, however, several clinical studies that show hydrogen-containing therapies can improve both emotional and cognitive function, and that it is physiologically well tolerated by elderly populations. To prevent emotional stress or entanglement with the cannula, one should consider is that a person with dementia should be constantly supervised whilst using the HydroVitality device.

Cancer is a very nuanced disease, with different cancers acting on different metabolic pathways. Research into the favourable effects of oxyhydrogen gas for numerous forms (e.g., breast, colorectal, lung, liver) and stages (1-4) of cancer is in early development. You may find the links below useful. As the research has yet to be clinically trialled, it is advised that you to be continuously monitored by your oncologist or healthcare practitioner whilst undertaking oxyhydrogen therapy for cancer.

Numerous studies have identified that hydrogen therapies can lower blood sugar levels. Whilst beneficial for patients with type 2 diabetes who do not take insulin, oxyhydrogen therapies are not recommended for people with type 1 diabetes due to increased insulin sensitivity and the risk of hyperglycaemia.

The antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of oxyhydrogen therapy can have significant effects for hypertension. It is advised that you have regular contact with your healthcare provider who will be able to monitor your condition and advise accordingly.

Research indicates that oxyhydrogen inhalation may be beneficial for regulating the autonomic nervous system response, reducing the increased respiratory rate and tachycardia symptoms that occur with CO2 poisoning.

This depends on factors such as age, antioxidant levels, diet, and overall health status. Some users may notice changes within days, while others may take longer to experience benefits.

Although oxyhydrogen therapies are generally well-tolerated, due to the lack of research in this area, we cannot recommend HydroVitality for vulnerable populations.

Long-term studies (beyond 12 months) into the effects of oxyhydrogen therapies have yet to be conducted.

Understand the safety measures and regulations behind Hydrovitality to ensure it meets the highest standards.

This is a very difficult question to answer as it depends on the reason a person uses the therapy. For example, an athlete who uses HydroVitality to improve performance may notice an immediate difference in their strength, stamina or recovery times. On the other hand, a person using HydroVitality to recover from illness, for example, may only notice a gradual improvement. The only way to conclusively know whether the therapy is working would be through biochemical/clinical monitoring – which would rely on different markers for different conditions.

Due to its effective antioxidant and immune modulatory properties, it is likely that HydroVitality can address some of the debilitating symptoms of Long-COVID such as fatigue and respiratory distress.

Avoid smoking, lighting candles, or burning incense while using HydroVitality.

Yes, in some cases it may increase the efficacy of some medications (e.g., insulin), meaning that you may need less. However, for many medications, the research has yet to be conducted. If you have any concerns at all, it is important that you inform your healthcare team and request regular monitoring of your condition.

Consult your healthcare provider for guidance on combining these therapies.

To date, there are only a few known contraindications:

  1. Type 1 diabetes: Due to the increased efficacy of reducing blood sugar, oxyhydrogen therapies are not recommended for people taking insulin.
  2. Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO): SIBO results in an increase in hydrogen-producing bacteria in the small intestine, for this reason drinking hydrogen-enriched water may not be suitable for people with SIBO. Oxyhydrogen inhalation on the other hand may be more suitable for these individuals as reports suggest the different delivery method can improve digestive transit times and reduce gut-related inflammation. People with SIBO should closely monitor their symptoms whilst using oxyhydrogen therapy.
  3. Respiratory conditions: Conditions such as asthma and COPD are sensitive to increased oxygen. Therefore, it is recommended that a spirometry test is conducted before using oxyhydrogen inhalation, and the patient is regularly monitored to assess respiratory levels.
  4. Allergic sensitivity to nasal cannula: People who may have adverse reactions to plastics may need to source a non-plastic nasal cannula.

As yet there are no dosage/duration guidelines for oxyhydrogen (or hydrogen) therapies. Research suggests that oxyhydrogen therapies are well-tolerated if used for less than 3 hours a day in most cases.

Oxygen has been used as a medical gas since 1917, while hydrogen gas has been studied for its health benefits since 2007. To date, there have been no reports of harm from using these gases together. Additionally, a growing body of scientific evidence supports the beneficial effects of oxyhydrogen therapy for various health conditions. Relevant studies can be found using the following identifiers:

Oxyhydrogen is a flammable gas but will only react if ignited.

Yes, there are several medical considerations that should be addressed prior to initiating oxyhydrogen therapy to ensure patient safety and efficacy of the treatment:

  • Medical History Review:
    1. Allergies or Sensitivities: Although unlikely, patients should disclose any known sensitivities to inhalation therapies or the materials used in the equipment (e.g., tubing, masks).
    2. Pregnancy and Lactation: Limited data exist on the safety of oxyhydrogen therapy for pregnant or breastfeeding individuals, so caution is recommended.
    3. Respiratory Conditions: Patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, or other respiratory issues should be evaluated, as the therapy involves inhalation and could exacerbate symptoms in sensitive individuals. Clinical practice guidelines are available, noted in the baseline health assessment section below.
    4. Type 1 Diabetes Risk: Hydrogen therapies can influence insulin signaling pathways. For Type 1 diabetics, this may increase the risk of hypoglycemia if therapy impacts glucose metabolism or insulin sensitivity. Patients should have their blood glucose levels closely monitored before, during, and after sessions.
  • Medication Interactions
Patients on medications that affect oxidative stress, blood oxygen levels, or metabolic balance should be reviewed to avoid potential interactions or side effects.
  • Baseline Health Assessment/ Contraindications
    1. Oxygen saturation levels: Baseline oxygen levels should be measured to ensure safety and monitor changes during therapy.
    2. Oxidative stress indicators: If available, assessing oxidative stress biomarkers may help tailor the treatment for maximum benefit.
    3. Explosive or flammable environments: Therapy must not be performed in environments with high risk of ignition.
    4. Severe medical instability: Critically ill patients may not be suitable for therapy without close medical supervision.

Oxyhydrogen therapy is non-invasive and does not require any touching of individuals undertaking treatment.

The potential injury or “damage” to a third party (physical or mental) from using oxyhydrogen therapy is minimal when the therapy is administered correctly and in accordance with safety standards. However, as with any therapeutic device there is a potential risk linked with improper application or individual health conditions.

  1. Adverse Reactions: Although rare, individuals with certain metabolic, microbial or oxidative imbalances might experience unexpected side effects. It is advised that practitioners closely monitor people with the aforementioned conditions.
  2. Emotional Risk: While oxyhydrogen therapy is generally considered safe and non-invasive, thorough training, patient screening, and adherence to operational protocols are essential to minimising individuals’ expectations and ensuring a positive experience.
  3. Explosive Risk: Oxyhydrogen is flammable and potentially explosive under certain conditions. Though HydroVitality devices are designed with safeguards to prevent accidents, improper handling of the equipment could pose risks. Sources of ignition should be avoided within a 10cm radius of gas outlets, tubing and water reserve.

Refer to the troubleshooting guide in the user manual for assistance. If the issue persists, we’re happy to help via a video call to resolve it.

This means that you need to add water to the electrolyser using the refilling tube on the back. See user manual.

The oxyhydrogen gas is not delivered by pressure and can be difficult to feel. If you place a tip of the cannula on your top lip or on the end of your tongue, you should feel a cool breeze. You can also check by placing the tips of the cannula in a glass of water, the air released will form bubbles in the water.

No! There are dangers in transporting, particularly in public areas or sources of heat (such as cars). Oxyhydrogen gas can be detonated and is unsafe to store in any vessel or container.

The hydrogen in oxyhydrogen gas may increase the result from the hydrogen breath test.

Get tips on how to use Hydrovitality, keep it well-maintained, and troubleshoot common issues to keep it running smoothly.

Although there is no physiological reason for you not to sleep whilst using the HydroVitality device, due to the risk of entanglement with the cannula tubing, it is not advised that you sleep whilst using the machine.

Research supports the use of inhalation and hydrogen-enriched water therapies for older adults (up to 3 hours (inhalation) or 1.5 litres (water), a day). However, there is little research available surrounding the use for small children (<10 years). In adolescents the use of hydrogen-enriched water was found to be beneficial for gut health.

There are only a few known contraindications as follows:

  • Type 1 diabetes: Due to the increased efficacy of reducing blood sugar, oxyhydrogen therapies are not recommended for people taking insulin.
  • Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO): SIBO results in an increase in hydrogen-producing bacteria in the small intestine, for this reason drinking hydrogen-enriched water may not be suitable for people with SIBO. Oxyhydrogen inhalation on the other hand may be more suitable for these individuals as reports suggest the different delivery method can improve digestive transit times and reduce gut-related inflammation. People with SIBO should closely monitor their symptoms whilst using oxyhydrogen therapy.
  • Respiratory conditions: Conditions such as asthma and COPD are sensitive to increased oxygen. Therefore, it is recommended that a spirometry test is conducted before using oxyhydrogen inhalation, and the patient is regularly monitored to assess respiratory levels.
  • Allergic sensitivity to nasal cannula: People who may have adverse reactions to plastics may need to source a non-plastic nasal cannula.

This would depend on many variable factors including, the health conditions, age, activity levels and environment, for example. As oxyhydrogen is an effective anti-inflammatory, it is feasible that for inflammatory-related conditions such as arthritis or COPD, the symptoms of pain, immobility, swelling or coughing, would be apparent quite quickly, perhaps within days. But for other conditions such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension or depressive disorders, the effects of therapy cessation may not be outwardly noticeable for some time.

Taking the device into a hospital is not advised as these are public spaces which increases the potential for ignition of oxyhydrogen gas.

No. Outside of the HBOT chamber, oxyhydrogen inhalation can be used in conjunction with HBOT to support recovery from the Bends. The antioxidant activity of oxyhydrogen can protect cells from damage as a result of decompression sickness.

Distilled water should be used as potential contaminants will have been removed in the distillation process. You are not using the water for medical purposes (i.e., cleaning, intravenous use), but for the machine and possibly drinking (it is safe to do so).

It seems you may have bought de-ionised water, not distilled water. De-ionised water is safe for machine use; however, distilled water is potable, you should use this for consuming oxyhydrogen-infused water.

It is not advised that you drink non-potable water. Distilled water is recommended for infusing the gas.

It is not recommended to add anything to the water, such as essential oils, when using the HydroVitality product. The device is specifically designed to infuse water with hydrogen gas in its pure form. Adding substances like essential oils could interfere with the hydrogen infusion process, potentially reduce its effectiveness, or damage the device. There are also health risks associated with certain additives as they could chemically react with hydrogen, potentially creating unwanted byproducts that could alter the safety or efficacy of the therapy. For optimal results and safety, use plain water as instructed.

The electrolyser pulls the water from the water filter when the therapy session ends.

For the device only distilled water is recommended. For consumption, tap water or mineral water can be used. However, due to the mineral content of these waters you may need to replace the diffusion stone more often than if you used distilled water for this purpose. Look for hard white deposits on the diffusion stone, if you see any replace.

Storage is not advised as the hydrogen will diffuse rapidly, oxyhydrogen-enriched water should be consumed within 15-30 minutes.

  • Attach the tubing with the infusion stone to the port where the cannula is typically connected.
  • Place the infusion stone in your drinkable water.
  • Turn on the HydroVitality device and let it run for at least 15 minutes to infuse therapeutic levels of gas.
  • Turn off the machine and consume the water within 15–30 minutes, as hydrogen diffuses rapidly.

Everyone will have unique requirements depending on their overall health and any/or any underlying health conditions they wish to treat. Therefore, it is best to consult with your healthcare practitioner who will help you to develop an individualised treatment plan.

No! As oxyhydrogen gas can be detonated, smoking, vaping and sources of ignition such as naked flames and candles should not be within 1 meter of the device when in use.

The device operates under 7amps, which is very low electrical consumption. The distilled/deionised water cost will vary according to consumption.

Hydrogen is approved as a supplement by the European Commission, U.S Food and Drug Agency (FDA) and the UK Food Standards Agency (FSA).

The consumable for HydroVitality is distilled water.

You can determine the need to add water by observing the reduction in bubbles in the water filter and the device glowing red.

HydroVitality utilises approximately half a litre of distilled water per 35 operational hours.

If the water runs out, the production of oxyhydrogen will stop, and the device will display a red indicator. In this case, it’s crucial to refill the water tank with distilled water to resume the device’s operation.

When the production rate changes, it’s advised to add distilled water to the device and ensure the cannula, tubes, and refilling cap are securely connected, maintaining the device’s optimal performance.
